Dr. NAACLS

Dear Dr. NAACLS
New Standards and Self-Studies

My program is up for review, and I don't know which set of Standards to use to write my Self-Study! Should I use the 1995 Standards or the newly approved 2001 Standards?

Signed,

Very Concerned Program Director

Dear Very Concerned,

NAACLS has recently approved the new Standards for CLS/MT, CLT/MLT and Phlebotomy. For these program levels, upcoming programs may have a choice of which set of Standards they will use.

CONTINUING PROGRAMS

Continuing CLS/MT, CLT/MLT and Phlebotomy programs that received the 1995 Standards in their Notification of Renewal Packets may choose the set of Standards they will use, while programs that received the 2001 Standards in their Notification of Renewal Packets will use the new Standards. If your program's End Accreditation date is before October 31, 2003, the Self-Study may be written in accordance with either set of Standards. If the program's End Accreditation date is October 31, 2003, or later, the Self-Study will need to adhere to the new Standards.

INITIAL PROGRAMS

Initial CLS/MT, CLT/MLT and Phlebotomy programs whose interest letter arrived at NAACLS before October 1, 2001, may choose the set of Standards they will use, while initial programs whose interest letter arrived after October 1, 2001 will use the new Standards.

As always, the NAACLS staff is eager to assist you in this matter.

Sincerely,

Dr. NAACLS
