I just received notification from NAACLS on the makeup of my site visit team, and I am concerned! My site visit team is composed of NAACLS review committee members - does this mean that our program is in trouble? Sincerely, Concerned Program Director Dear Concerned: Not at all! Any NAACLS Board or Committee member is eligible to go on a NAACLS site visit, and they are often are called upon to do so! Many of our most experienced site visitors also serve as members on either the Board or the Committee and often find their experience filling the site visitor role enhances their roles in these positions - these roles are often complimentary! They are also distinct. A NAACLS Board or Committee member who is serving as a site visitor is filling the role of a site visitor, and is not performing Committee roles, such as citing Standards or awarding accreditation! In fact, a NAACLS Board or Committee member is to abstain from voting on the accreditation or approval of a program they have site visited. The general requirements for a NAACLS site visitor are: Current or experienced program director, faculty member, clinical laboratory professional, physician or dean with knowledge of the clinical laboratory sciences.
In addition, all Board and Committee members are eligible, as are administrators that oversee a NAACLS accredited program. Regardless of the path to eligibility, all volunteers must have some characteristics in common. They must demonstrate:
Volunteers are the life blood of this organization. If you would like to volunteer, please contact a staff member at the NAACLS office! Sincerely, Dr. NAACLS
