Should the CLS/MT Education Entry Level be the Masters Degree?
|

Problems for Certification Agencies
- The research base for the content area and level of the certifying examinations
is based on current laboratory practice.
- A post graduate curriculum differing in a substantial manner from the current
baccalaureate could cause a disconnect between the program curricula and the
current career entry levels as defined by the certification agencies.
- Certifying bodies operate on the premise that the impetus for the movement to
post baccalaureate education should come from the professional organization.
(This is evident from the background materials from the other representative
professions APTA etc.)
- Anything that diminishes the number of applicants for career-entry examination
would be a cause for concern to these agencies as gate- keepers into the
profession. In addition, a decrease in numbers directly translates into loss of
revenue used to support their mission.
Note: It was concluded that the overall effect on certifying bodies would
probably be minor since they do task analyses of current working environment.
