NAACLS adopts new requirements for maintaining approval
by Halcyon St. Hill, EdD, MS, MT(ASCP)CLS
PARC Chairman

While programs receiving NAACLS approval are not required to have a site visit, it is necessary that they comply with administrative requirements as stated in the Standards for an Approved Program in Phlebotomy and the Standards for an Approved Program in Cytogenetic Technology. Clarifications to these Standards were adopted by the Board of Directors at its September meeting:

The new requirements include:

  1. Submitting the Self-Study Report and an Application for Continuing Approval, or a required Progress Report as determined by NAACLS.
  2. Informing NAACLS of a change of program director within 30 days.
  3. Paying approval fees.
  4. Completing the NAACLS Annual Report and submitting it to NAACLS by the established deadline.

NAACLS sends programs an Application for Continuing Approval and notifies them of the Self-Study Report due date. Programs are also notified when reports and fees are not received on time. Failure to comply with any of the above listed requirements may lead to Administrative Probationary Approval.
