Over the past year, the number of initial programs has been increasing. As a result, NAACLS has received many inquiries regarding "Serious Applicant Status. " ACCREDITATION Serious applicant status is achieved when a program seeking initial accreditation has received approval of a Preliminary Report and submitted the following:
Guidelines for the content of the Preliminary Report and the Self-Study Report are outlined in the Guide to Accreditation. Once the Preliminary Report has been approved, NAACLS notifies the program to begin the Self-Study Process. This notification includes the due date for Self-Study Report and month and year of the projected site visit. Initial programs have the freedom to change the submission date of the Self-Study Report and the projected site visit date. Once the Self-Study Reports, the Application of Initial Accreditation and the Initial Application Fee are received in the NAACLS office, certification agencies are notified regarding the status of the program. NAACLS does not assign program code numbers, nor do we have a listing of test sites and dates. Specific information regarding the certifying examinations may be obtained from the appropriate agency. A program seeking initial accreditation may remain in serious applicant status for 18 months. After that time, the status is invalid and the program must resubmit the Preliminary Report. APPROVAL A program seeking approval is considered a serious applicant once we have received an approved Self-Study Report, the Initial Application Fee and the Application for Initial Approval. Again, the certification agencies are notified upon receipt of these items. A program seeking initial approval may remain in serious applicant status for up to six months. After that time, this status is invalid and the program must resubmit the Self-Study Report and Initial Application Fee. Should you require more information, contact Program Services staff at 312. 714. 8880 or email NAACLS@gnn. com.
