NAACLS develops Strategic Plan for next seven years
by Joeline D. Davidson, MBA, CLS(NCA)
Vice President, Board of Directors

NAACLS recently completed the development of a Strategic Plan, which sets the direction of the agency for the next seven years.

Six issues of concern for the agency were determined and ranked in order of priority:

  • Public Relations and Collaboration
  • Problems for Programs
  • Introduction of Multi-Skilled
  • Practitioners
  • Financial Status
  • Changes in Regulations and
  • External Challenges to Education
  • Organizational Structure

NAACLS plans to grow through association and collaboration with other groups and organizations. It will position itself in the accreditation environment by developing a public relations program to properly identify itself to its publics and to enhance its image. Further, the agency seeks to give added value to its clients by defining the benefits of specialized accreditation and by marketing this value to its constituents.

A recently conducted survey indicated very high customer satisfaction with NAACLS; however, NAACLS will seek to strengthen customer satisfaction via increased support to programs and program directors. Additionally, new assistance will be provided to programs anticipating involuntary closure.

NAACLS will continue to identify the needs for multi-skilled practitioners. As these needs are identified, standards for multi-skilled programs will be developed. The first entry into this arena is the development of the Clinical Assistant Standards and Competencies, which are currently in the public hearing process.

To maintain its excellent financial status and to encourage new growth, the agency will continuously support financial growth in a variety of ways. NAACLS is committed to using state of the art technology to enhance its efficiency and quality of services.

An awareness of the regulatory environment with regard to health care and education will be maintained through the monitoring of government activities and collaboration with other agencies and organizations to influence legislation and regulations when appropriate.

NAACLS plans to ensure an effective group of volunteer professionals to perform the excellent services the agency offers.

Being cognizant of the constantly changing health care environment, NAACLS has positioned itself to be responsive to new types of programs that may develop in the future.

In addition to accomplishing its goals and maintaining its excellent image, NAACLS has committed to involve its stakeholders in as many processes as possible. Further, the agency will continue to identify and enhance the mechanisms which contribute to the stakeholders' positive impression of NAACLS. As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, the agency looks forward to a very successful future.

Ms. Davidson is the incoming President of the Board of Directors & Chair of the Strategic Planning Task Force.
