Despite program officials' best efforts, portions of Essential/Standard 24 are sometimes overlooked. This often stems from the fact that it is covered neither in the Paper Review Report nor in the Site Visit Report. The most notable violation is Essential 24B/Standard 24C, which requires:
Why is it so crucial to the program that NAACLS is notified of these changes? The review committees must assess the qualifications of all new program directors and medical advisors/medical directors. This process ensures that the program is in compliance with other Essentials/Standards. Notification of changes in program director and medical advisor/medical director is also necessary so that the office has a contact person at all times. Correspondence and information pertinent to the program or its students are sent out regularly by NAACLS. Another reason for keeping NAACLS informed is that often a new program director may join the program after the notification of renewal has been sent out. This packet is sometimes lost or overlooked in the process of reorganization. In such cases, the NAACLS office may need to send new materials so that the accreditation process may proceed as scheduled. Between accreditation cycles it is important to keep NAACLS notified of all affiliate changes. This ensures that records are accurate both for billing purposes and for compliance with the United States Department of Education. Changes in affiliates are particularly important during the site visit process. Affiliates not visited during the previous site visit must be viewed at this time. As affiliates may be distant, early notification gives NAACLS, the program and potential site visitors ample time prior to the site visit to coordinate affiliate visits. Another equally significant part of Essential/Standard 24 is often overlooked or placed on the back burner; Essential 24E/Standard 24D necessitates:
This report, which is distributed annually by the AMA and completed by program directors, provides current information to NAACLS regarding program configuration. Additionally, it serves as a recruitment tool for the program by supplying information to potential students. NAACLS and AMA staff work together to ensure that this information is accurate, so it is imperative that the program give NAACLS timely notification regarding any changes within the program or institution (i. e. , institution name, institution address, CEO name). A program that fails to comply with the requirements of this Essential or Standard may be awarded administrative probation. NAACLS is continually looking for ways to make the accreditation and approval processes run smoother for all concerned. Complying with Essential/Standard 24, keeping NAACLS informed, helps us to help you. Ms. Mitchell is the Program Coordinator for CLS/MT, Phlebotomy and Cytogenetic Technology Programs
