Revitalization of programs a priority by Kathy V. Waller, PhD, CLS Member-at-Large, NAACLS Board of Directors

NAACLS staff and volunteers receive repeated requests for information to assist programs targeted for possible closure. During strategic planning sessions, the Board of Directors recognized this as a major issue, especially at the CLS/MT level. In an attempt to address this need, a task force was appointed by the President. This Program Revitalization Task Force is preparing documentation to assist programs.

A manuscript will contain separate sections on problem definition and background, national statistics, specific strategies to address and prevent closure, student recruitment ideas, systems and cost analysis procedures, selected case studies, and a bibliography.

The task force members are requesting that program faculty and administrators submit "success stories" from programs that faced possible closure but remained active. They may be sent to Kathy Waller, Task Force Chair, at waller. 1@osu. edu.

It is expected that the document will be available in printed form and on the NAACLS website by December. Additional members of the task force are Chris Barczak, Lester Hardegree, Carol McCoy, Linda Comeaux, Karen Myers, and Linda Ross.
