At the September Board of Directors' meeting, the process of approving programs for the Clinical Assistant (CA) was finalized. The board charged an existing committee, the Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC) with responsibility for reviewing CA programs. There are currently several applications for program approval either pending or ready for committee consideration. The committee that had worked on development of the CA Standards and Competencies completed its charge last spring. PARC was reorganized and asked to move forward with CA approval. The board authorized a modification of PARC in order to accommodate the expansion of responsibilities. It appointed two additional members to the current eight-member committee, which is chaired by Susan E. Phelan, MHS, MT(ASCP). The new members appointed to PARC previously served on the development committee for CA. They are Mary Beth Fisk, MT(ASCP), Director of Education at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center and Cecile Sanders, MEd, MT(ASCP), Dean of Health Sciences at Austin Community College. Administrators or faculty interested in learning more about approval should contact the NAACLS office. Monica Mitchell is the staff coordinator for CA programs.
