A call for volunteers
by Megan Hennessy Eggert
Meetings and Publicity Coordinator

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer Board or Committee Member for NAACLS? Now is your chance! We are seeking nominations (including self-nominations) for service on the Board of Directors and Review Committees. The following positions are open, although in some cases the incumbent may be eligible for re-election:

Board of Directors (BOD)

Four-Year Educator (cannot be a CLS, CLT, HT or HTL)
CLT/MLT Practitioner/Educator
Public Member

Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee (CLSPRC)

(2) CLS/MT Educators
(3) CLT/MLT Educators

Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC)

Member-at-Large

The Board of Directors functions as the governing unit of NAACLS and grants the final accreditation and approval actions. The Board also formulates NAACLS policy. Members attend two meetings annually: a one to two-day audio teleconference in April, and a three-day face to face meeting in September. Members participate in the formulation of policies and procedures, review and approve the annual budget and Essentials and Standards, and participate in standing or ad hoc committees, as appointed.

Service on the Review Committees requires familiarity with the NAACLS accreditation/approval processes and knowledge of principles and practices of management in education.

The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee (CLSPRC) members conduct the accreditation activities for CLS/MT, CLT/MLT, HT and HTL, and they make accreditation recommendations to the Board of Directors, which are subject to the board's approval. The Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC) members conduct the approval activities for phlebotomy, cytogenetic technology and clinical assisting. They make approval recommendations to the Board, which are subject to the Board's approval.

Review Committee members attend two meetings annually, i. e. , a winter audio teleconference meeting and an annual face to face meeting in July. Members participate in the review and revision of Essentials and Standards, review detailed program documents and participate in site visits and self-study reviews, among other duties.

All appointments are for four-year terms. Interested individuals should contact Dr. Olive M. Kimball, Executive Director, by March 15, 1999.
