The best word to describe the current state of our internal computer operations is change. There have been or will be changes in NAACLS staff, equipment and database. The change in staff occurred this summer with Clyde Cornelius leaving for another opportunity. Mr. Cornelius was much appreciated for his friendship, good attitude and computer expertise. Fortunately for NAACLS, Mr. Cornelius has agreed to remain available as a consultant. Mark Erickson was hired as the CIS Coordinator in August, and is excited about the opportunities this position provides. There have been two main additions to the computer equipment at NAACLS. We purchased a laptop computer to be used primarily for presentations at meetings and workshops. We also purchased a new server for the network, and will upgrade our server and workstations to the Microsoft® Windows NT® operating system with Back Office. This will significantly expand storage capacity, improve network stability and enhance productivity. We are planning to migrate the database to Microsoft® Access. This platform will provide increased integration with other applications, and it will facilitate publishing selected information from the database to our web site. We expect that these changes will improve access to information, both internally and externally.
