Increase in Annual Fees Planned by Dorryl L. Buck, MD Treasurer, Board of Directors

After extensive discussions and debate by the NAACLS Finance Committee and full Board of Directors, it has been determined that it is necessary to raise accreditation and approval fees that are paid on an annual basis. The increase is the first since those announced in 1993.

It became apparent that, in the coming year, operating expenses would exceed operating revenue. This was noted even after continuous and thorough review of operational efficiency and a major effort to reduce expenses. The significant increase in rental expense for office space was a major contributing factor.

Every member of the Board clearly understands the financial pressures facing programs and wishes the increase were not necessary. However, beginning with fiscal year 2002 the fees will be increased by $100 a year for each of three consecutive years.

Even at the proposed level, several members of the Board noted that NAACLS' fees are considerably below those charged by other allied health accreditors. Nevertheless, NAACLS will continue to be vigilant in the use of your funds and sincerely hopes it will be many years before another increase will be necessary.
