An update on NAACLS workshops by Megan Hennessy Eggert Meetings & Publicity Coordinator

NAACLS held the Educational Methodologies workshop on July 24, 2000 in San Francisco, California. It was held in concurrence with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science's (ASCLS) Annual Meeting. Nine persons attended the workshop, which was led by Charles W. Ford, PhD, Member-at-Large of NAACLS' Affiliated Professions Review Committee (APRC). Gwen James-Oriaikhi, NAACLS' Senior Program Coordinator, was also in attendance. The smaller group allowed for "great interaction between the instructor and audience, " as one participant put it. Sheila Clover, CPT, (ASCP), (ASPT), said, "The workshop was a concise compilation of diverse material on educational methodologies. It was perfect for both new instructors and the experienced instructor." The next set of workshops will be held on February 21, 2001 in St. Louis, Missouri (in concurrence with the ASCLS Clinical Laboratory Educators' Conference): Educational Methodologies Accreditation Process: Steps Through the Self-Study and Site Visit A workshop announcement will be sent out in early December to all NAACLS accredited and approved programs. Dr. Ford leads the workshop. During lunch, participants have the opportunity to network with other program officials and speak with the workshop presenter.
