A Look at the Reactivation Process
by Jane Hudson, PhD, MT(ASCP)SM, CLS(NCA) CLSPRC Member
|
At the last CLSPRC and NAACLS Board meetings, a resolution was passed to provide for a more timely response to programs requesting reactivation. The reactivation process for programs that wish to reactive within three years of closure requires a Progress Report that addresses the following:
- Reasons for the program's inactivity and reactivation.
- Actions taken to satisfactorily resolve issues that led to the inactive status.
- Self-Study Fact Sheets that include updated information on the sponsoring institution, program officials, and the clinical sites.
- Current affiliation agreements or memoranda of understanding signed by the responsible parties of each affiliate (academic and clinical) to assure interaction in planning, implementation and conduct of the program.
- A description of any changes in the program, including changes in:
- the statement of program goals.
- the summary of important features of the program.
- the relationships of the program officials and faculty to service obligations and teaching (documented by a letter from the institution's chief executive officer).
- courses to be offered, including sequencing, with brief descriptions, modes of instruction, and clock and/or credit hours.
- the summary of instructional resources, such as classroom and library facilities, space, equipment, and instructional materials.
Two CLSPRC readers determine if the reactivation materials are satisfactory, notifying the CLSPRC only for informational purposes. If the application has unresolved concerns, final action may be referred to the entire CLSPRC for resolution. For programs with reactivation materials that are deemed to be satisfactory by the two readers, the NAACLS office will notify the applying program of its granted "reactivation" and instruct the program that students may be enrolled. The NAACLS office will also provided the program with future dates for submission of the Self-Study Report and the Site Visit.
Programs that wish to reactivate after being closed more than three years must follow the Initial Applicant process.
