NAACLS Computer Update by Mark Erickson Computer Information Services/Program Coordinator

We have updated the computer network in the NAACLS office and plan to improve the way we manage files internally. Some of the updates include adding additional memory for our workstations and server; switching from dial-up Internet access to a broadband, dedicated connection; integrating our office copier into our network to enable high-speed printing and scanning; and purchasing Adobe Acrobat software for our workstations.

We plan to use the high-speed scanning capability of our copier and the Adobe Acrobat software to convert many of our paper documents to electronic documents. This will reduce the office space needed for storing these documents in filing cabinets, prevent document loss as a result of misfiling or physical damage, enable efficient access to documents from the desktop, and facilitate the electronic distribution of documents to board and committee members. We are currently developing a strategy that will ensure the security and efficiency of our electronic document storage and retrieval.
