Over the last several years, the NAACLS website, www.naacls.org, has become an important instrument for communicating with our programs and volunteers. In this article, I'll describe some of the information that is available on our website, and give a few tips on how to best find what you are looking for. Our home page is designed to be an entry point for your visit to our site. On the left area of the screen, you will find links to frequently visited areas of our website. The body of the page contains important announcements and workshop information. You can click on the title of an announcement to get more detail or download the linked document. On the top of every page, you will see a clickable banner image. This banner contains links to different categories. For example, if you are a program director looking for assistance on writing objectives, you can click on Programs. If you are interested in obtaining documents relevant to the accreditation process, you can click on Accreditation. If you want to search our site, you can click on Search. The second most popular page on our site, next to the home page, is the program search page. This can be found by clicking on the Search button on the top banner. You can search an online database of active accredited and approved programs, and can obtain contact information with the results of your query. This tool is frequently used by potential students and others looking for a program in their area. Another popular feature is our online archive of NAACLS News. Under the News category you can view or search the index of NAACLS News articles. Most of the recent articles can be read online, and others may be requested from the NAACLS office. The NAACLS News issues, as well as many of our other documents, are available for you to download in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. These documents are marked by the PDF graphic on our website. In order to view PDF documents on our website, I highly recommend obtaining the most recent release of Adobe's Acrobat Reader software, which can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe (www.adobe.com). There is also a direct link to Adobe's website on the left column of the NAACLS website. As of this writing, the most recent version of the software is 5.0. In order to see what version you are currently using, open the Acrobat Reader program, click on the Help menu, and select the item that reads "About Acrobat Reader." If you are using a version older than 4.0, you may have trouble viewing some of the documents on our website. When you click on a link to a PDF document, you should either see the PDF document appear in your browser, or be prompted to save the file on your computer. There are many other features available on our website, including message boards for online discussions, links to our programs and other agencies, and even pictures of the NAACLS Board members, committee members, and staff! If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the NAACLS website, please contact me at webmaster@naacls.org.
