CEO's Corner
NAACLS Elections Held
by Olive M. Kimball, PhD, EdD
NAACLS Chief Executive Officer

Olive Kimball

In April the NAACLS Board of Directors held the annual election for Board and review committee positions. Nominations were solicited by mail and via the Internet as well as in the NAACLS News. In creating a slate of nominees to recommend to the Board, the Nominations Committee found it difficult to make selections from a pool of highly qualified individuals. For the committees, the nominees were, over all, very active NAACLS site visitors and paper reviewers.

Elected to the Board of Directors as a Laboratory Administrator Representative for ASCLS was Cheryl Caskey, MA, MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), SBB(ASCP), SI(NCA). Ms. Caskey is Laboratory Director at the Powell Medical Center Clinic Laboratory in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is a Past President of ASCLS.

Elected for a second four-year term on the Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC) was James E. Daly, MEd, MT(ASCP). Mr. Daly is Phlebotomy Program Director at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio.

Elected to an additional four-year term on the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee (CLSPRC) were the following incumbents:

M. LaCheeta McPherson, PhD, MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA). Dr. McPherson is Associate Dean of Allied Health and Vocational Nursing at El Centro College in Dallas.

Margie A. Scott, MD, MT(ASCP).
Dr. Scott is Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System Hospitals in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Elected for initial four-year terms on the CLSPRC were the following:

Arthur S. Keehnle, MS, MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), as CLT/MLT Educator. Mr. Keehnle is CLT/MLT Program Director at Beaufort County Community College in Washington, North Carolina.

Anna M. Randall, DO, MT(ASCP), as a CLT/MLT Pathologist Educator. Dr. Randall is a Pathologist at Muskogee Clinical Laboratory, Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Beverly M. Kovanda, PhD, MT(ASCP), CLPlb(NCA), as a Histology Educator. Dr. Kovanda is Coordinator of Multi-Competency Health Technology at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio. She serves as administrator for CLT/MLT, HT/HTL, and phlebotomy programs there.

Floyd M. Grimm, III, MS, as Histology Educator. Mr. Grimm serves as HT/HTL Program Director at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.

Teresa A. Taff, MA, MT(ASCP), SM(ASCP), CLS(NCA), as CLS/MT Educator. Ms. Taff is CLS/MT Program Director at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Florissant, Missouri.

Phyllis Pacifico, EdD, MT(ASCP). Dr. Pacifico is CLS/MT Program Director at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Lorna Peterson, Lucille Contois, Betty Dunn and Joeline Davidson served on the Nominations Committee this year. New committee members will be guests of the Board in July when they will participate in an orientation session and observe committee meetings. Their term begins on July 14, 2002. The new Board member will be oriented at the September meeting.

We extend sincere thanks to all volunteers placed in nomination. Nominees who were not elected are encouraged to volunteer for the committees again in the future and to continue to serve as site visitors and paper reviewers. It is the spirit and commitment of NAACLS volunteers that makes possible the process of peer evaluation/program accreditation.
