Greetings From the new CLSPRC Chair
by Claudia Miller, PhD, MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA) Chairman, NAACLS Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee
|
As the new Chair of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program Review Committee
(CLSPRC), I would like to tell you about some projects and plans that NAACLS has
for the continued improvement of services to you, the program officials.
The committee and staff are working to integrate the Standards, Guide to
Accreditation, Paper Review Form and Site Visit Report for all programs. This,
at first was thought to be a simple straightforward job; however, it has become
a bigger task than we first thought. At the present time, the revisions are out
for review, and the new and improved documents will be available for use very
soon. I encourage you to give feedback as you use the forms. What seems
user-friendly to the authors may be confusing to the users.
Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the NAACLS office
or the lead person for your discipline. Information can be found on the NAACLS
website, www.naacls.org.
Investigation is proceeding into ways to merge assessment of phlebotomy programs
with CLT/MLT programs within the same institution. This would save the program
director from writing a separate Self-Study Report for each program.
NAACLS is planning to host a collaborative discussion for organizations
concerned with the entry level and utilization issues. It would be similar to
the 2000 Futures Conference.
New clinical affiliate requirements have been established. When notifying NAACLS
about a new clinical affiliate, the following must be included
- Clinical facility fact sheet
- Current signed affiliation agreement
- Program director's signature attesting that the new affiliate meets the NAACLS' criteria
The Chair of CLSPRC will review the information, and the program will receive
acknowledgment from NAACLS.
Additional information that was previously required for new affiliates will now
be included in the Self-Study Report under Standard 1.
Cytogenetic technology will transfer to the CLSPRC in Winter 2004. These programs will become accredited instead of approved.
The Board of Directors decreed that the CLSPRC and Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC) merge into one unit. The Affiliated Professions Review
Committee (APRC) will remain autonomous.
Marcia Armstrong, Chair of PARC, and I will meet with Kathy Waller and Shauna Anderson, Board of Directors' Representatives, to plan this merger.
Please contact NAACLS if you have any problem or question. Our goal is to
maintain high standards while continually improving the service to program
officials. Let us know how we are doing.
