NAACLS Survey of Program Directors 2004
by Elizabeth Everson
Computer Information Services/Program Coordinator

The final numbers were in this past summer from the NAACLS Survey of Program Directors. Some of the more interesting highlights include:

• A total of 134 NAACLS accredited and/or approved programs have distance learning options; 75 CLT/MLT programs and 35 CLS/MT programs.

• For CLT/MLT programs, the number of graduates has been increasing steadily over four years from a total of 1,831 in 2001 to 2,367 expected in 2004.

• For CLS/MT programs, the increase in number of graduates, although decreasing in 2002, went from 1,909 in 2001 to 2,079 expected in 2004.

• Thirty-two of the 232 CLS/MT programs are at the graduate level.

• The number of phlebotomy graduates rose from 888 in 2001 to 1,599 expected for 2004, with the number of male graduates increasing from 78 to 166 over that time period.

• Attrition rates were highest for CLT/MLT programs (33%) and CA programs (27%) with CLS/MT (22%) and phlebotomy (20%) close behind.

• There are 40 CLT/MLT programs and 30 CLS/MT programs that include retraining options
