NAACLS Graduate Task Force Continues its Work and Seeks Your Input
We hope you enjoyed the Special Edition of the NAACLS News that was mailed out in April and is currently on the NAACLS web site at http://www.naacls.org/news/naacls-news/archives.asp. Articles within the issue explained the rationale behind the decision to support a clinical doctorate for CLS/MT and the expected competencies of graduates. The value of such a professional to pathologists, clinicians and patients was delineated. There was emphasis on the fact that it is not an entry level degree. CLS/MT entry level will remain the same and, as now, CLS/MT education may be at the baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate level and at the discretion of the institution.

NAACLS will accredit the clinical doctorate programs. Depending upon the mission and/or prerogative of the academic institution, the clinical doctorate may be incorporated within a PhD degree with additional emphasis on basic research or the clinical doctorate may stand alone as an advanced practitioner doctorate.

Open hearings will be held when Standards are developed. In the meantime NAACLS invites feedback from institutions that are planning to offer the clinical doctorate. We would like to know who you are, when you anticipate accepting students, and any other information that may help us in supporting this movement.  Send your comments to NAACLS by emailing Dr. Kimball.
