Annual Program Fees Increase;
Affiliate Fees to be Phased Out
by Dianne Cearlock
Chief Executive Officer
At its September 21 meeting, the NAACLS Board of Directors voted to approve a phased increase in annual accreditation and approval fees. Such a fee increase is necessary to keep pace with inflation and rising operating costs, to support best accreditation practices, and to support NAACLS strategic plan initiatives.

The efforts of NAACLS to hold down operating costs have resulted in four years without any increase in fees. A comparative survey of annual accreditation fees for a number of programs in related disciplines was conducted and revealed that NAACLS fees are below the mean. NAACLS will continue its legacy of cost control combined with best accreditation practices.

Accreditation fees will increase $100/year over a three-year period beginning in July 2008. Affiliate fees remain at $25 per affiliate with maximum affiliate fees of $300/year in 2008, will be reduced to $12.50 per affiliate with maximum affiliate fees of $150 in 2009, and be eliminated in 2010. Beginning in 2011, accreditation fees will increase by five percent per year in order to keep income aligned with inflation and rising operational costs.

Approval fees will increase $100/year over a two-year period beginning in July, 2008. In 2010, approval fees will increase by five percent per year.

A table illustrating the changes in fees through 2013 is shown below.

Program fees Current 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013
Accreditation $1200 + affiliate fees $1300 + affiliate fees $1400 + 1/2 affiliate fees $1500 $1575 $1655 $1735
Approval $1100 $1200 $1300 $1365 $1435 $1505 $1580
