ASCP-BOR and NAACLS Merging Annual Surveys
|
Starting in 2008, the ASCP-BOR and NAACLS will conduct a merged annual program survey. Currently, both the ASCP-BOR and NAACLS annually collect data from NAACLS accredited and approved programs. All NAACLS accredited and approved programs must annually complete and submit the NAACLS survey to remain in compliance with NAACLS Standards. Failure to do so results in administrative probation and reduces the maximum number of possible years awarded on the subsequent accreditation or approval cycle.
The ASCP-BOR and NAACLS are collaborating in an attempt to make the submission of program information more convenient for program directors by decreasing duplication of effort. Many of the questions will be the same as last year's NAACLS survey including those requesting information about general program information, enrollments, retention numbers, and graduation and employment placement rates. New in 2008 will be one or more questions about certification examination pass rates over three year periods.
The survey will be conducted electronically as it has been for several years. Both the ASCP-BOR and NAACLS will have equal access to the survey data and will jointly make decisions about data dissemination. In 2008, NAACLS also plans to post a composite summary of survey data on its website to provide program directors, managers, policymakers, and the public useful information to evaluate trends in clinical laboratory sciences education and numbers of graduates.
