Recognizing Our Outstanding NAACLS Volunteers
by Edward Rotchford Program Coordinator
|
In 2007, the NAACLS Board of Directors approved a new Volunteer Recognition
program with a goal to recognize all of those outstanding individuals who, in
addition to their own busy schedules and responsibilities, volunteer their time
to the NAACLS peer review process. If not for their time and dedication, NAACLS
would not be able to function as successfully as it does today.
One purpose of the new Volunteer Recognition program is to publicly recognize
those who have participated in 30 or more Self-Study Paper Reviews or program
site visits since the year 2000. NAACLS would like to send a sincere thank you
to the following individuals who have truly set the standard as "Outstanding
NAACLS Volunteers:"
Mary Jean Rutherford, MEd, MT(ASCP)SC
Arkansas State University - Retired
Mary Jean began volunteering for NAACLS in 1990. She served on the Clinical
Laboratory Sciences Program Review Committee (CLSPRC) from 1993-2002, 2004 and
has served on the Programs Approval Review Committee (PARC) since 2005. Among
her proudest achievements since working with NAACLS has been meeting many new
friends and colleagues, and serving as CLSPRC Chair in 2001-2002.
Katherine Nisi Zell, EdS, CLS(NCA), MT(ASCP)SH
Prog. Director/Okefenokee Consultant
Coastal Georgia Community College
Nisi has been volunteering for NAACLS since the late 1980s and served on the
CLSPRC from 1990-1998. She is currently serving her second term on PARC, to
which she was elected in 2001. Nisi feels that her proudest achievement since
being involved with NAACLS has been mentoring new volunteers and site visitors
and watching them become active in the NAACLS peer review process.
Marcia Armstrong, MS, MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA)
Program Director
University of Hawaii - Kapiolani Community College
Marcia has been a NAACLS volunteer since the late 1970s and first became a site
visitor in 1981. She served on PARC from 1998-2006 and was Chair from 2002-2005.
Marcia was elected to serve on the CLSPRC in 2006 and continues to serve on the
newly created Review Committee for Accredited Programs (RCAP). Marcia considers
her proudest achievement with NAACLS to be during her time as PARC Chair when a
merged review process was established for CLT/MLT and Phlebotomy programs
sponsored by the same institution.
Teresa Taff, MA, MT(ASCP)SM
Program Director
St. John's Mercy Medical Center
Teresa has been a NAACLS volunteer since 1997. She has served on the CLSPRC and
continues to serve on RCAP as Vice Chair. Teresa feels that her proudest
achievement with NAACLS has been serving on the programs review committees, not
only which she considers an honor, but also which she credits to helping improve
her own CLS/MT program.
Karen Myers, MA, MT(ASCP)SC, CLS(NCA)
Program Director
The Colorado Center for Medical Laboratory Science
Karen has been volunteering for NAACLS for nearly 20 years. She served on PARC
and was Chair from 2004-2007. Karen considers a number of areas in working with
NAACLS that she feels most proudly about, including the continued cohesiveness
of PARC and its review processes, committee contributions to standard revisions,
and the opportunity to work with
other field experts.
