Board of Directors Update, April 08

At the April 10, 2008 teleconference of the NAACLS Board of Directors, in addition to accreditation and approval awards recommended by the RCAP and PARC, the following actions were taken:

  • Combined site visits, e.g., CLT/MLT and Phlebotomy programs at the same sponsoring institution, were taken off pilot status and will continue.
  • Self-Study Reports may be discarded 30 days after the Board acts on the program, provided that the program does not have a Progress Report due. Program Directors should save a copy for the program's use.
  • Elections for Board positions were held. Filling a vacant position is Dr. Fred Rodriguez whose term begins immediately. Other elected Board members whose terms begin in September 2008 include Peggy Simpson, MS, MT(ASCP) (beginning a 2nd term); Yasmen Simonian, PhD, CLS(NCA), MT(ASCP); Lydia McMorrow, PhD, ABMG, and Sondra Fleming, MS, RN.
  • Elections for RCAP and PARC were held. Karen McClure, PhD, MT(ASCP), SBB; James Vossler, MS, MT(ASCP)SM; Colleen Galvis, AAPA Fellow; Maria Delost, MS, CLS(NCA), MT(ASCP), and Peter Hu, MS, CLS(NCA), CLSp(CG), were elected to serve on RCAP. David Gingrich, PBT(ASCP), and Karen Myers, MA, CLS(NCA), MT(ASCP), were elected to serve on PARC. RCAP and PARC terms begin in September 2008.
  • To further strengthen and stabilize the leadership of NAACLS, the position of President Elect will partially replace the Vice President of the NAACLS Board of Directors. The Vice President will be elected and serve during the first year of the President's term. The President Elect will be elected at the beginning of the President's second year (of a two-year term) and then becomes President after the one-year term. Both offices will have the same responsibilities. This change ensures better continuity in the NAACLS Board leadership.
  • Minor editorial changes in Standard 17G for the CG, CLS/MT, CLT/MLT, DMS, HTL levels were approved.
  • A template for a MasterGuide for all NAACLS accredited programs was approved. Upon implementation, NAACLS will have three MasterGuides for: Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS), (all) accredited program levels, and (all) approved program levels.
